Weekend Wrap 5/24/2026
Each weekend, I like to pause, reflect, and look back on the past week. This isn't meant to be a deep dive or sweeping life philosophy—just a collection of things that caught my attention, made me think, brought me joy, or stayed with me in some way.
Music

I had the opportunity to take some friends to their first metal show. And guess what?
The freaking loved it. Amon Amarth was just awesome. Great energy, the crowd was super into it. We all sat on the floor and rowed like we were in a Viking longboat. We sang (and growled) together about battles, victory, brother and sisterhood, and mead.
It was an affirmation of why I love this kind of music. People who didn't know each other were giving each other hugs. New bonds were formed. And the dude sweeping the floor between sets got some of the biggest cheers of the night. That's what it is all about: having fun, enjoying the catharsis of the music, and lifting each other up (sometimes literally).
Games

There is something zen in driving around Japan at 200+ mph, drum and bass music blasting. Forza Horizon 6 is fantastic. I've been a fan of the Forza Horizon games since the first iteration, and they continue to deliver.
More auto sim than the Burnout games, but less hardcore than the Forza Motorsport games, these are the perfect blend of arcade and sim. It looks gorgeous, the cars are beautiful (and so many to collect), and the variety of events is a blast. I've put in an embarrassing number of hours over this past week, and don't plan to stop any time soon.
Books
I'm still working on A Parade of Horribles. And I'm enjoying it.
But it is time to be done with Dungeon Crawler Carl for a while. It is funny, but not as fun as I was hoping when I started. It is still existentially heavy. Not what I am looking for at the moment.
Still, it is enjoyable, but I know what is coming after I finish this book.
TV / Movies
We finished The Good Place this week. It was a freaking joy. That show is a treasure. Funny, witty, charming, and a story literally about people trying to be better.
And help each other be better, too.
Our world could use more of that. I already miss it.
Refinement
The "Daily Note" experiment continues to be a success. I am finding great value in the time, morning and night, of sitting, planning, and then reflecting.
I've also created some neat ways to use the daily note and Todoist, syncing tasks across the two locations so I have the power of a dedicated task management app, but the record of my tasks in my notes.
Quote of the Week

This idea continues to surface: systems being the key to consistency.
I've been trying to think on how to improve my systems. I am working on that with some of them. But not as much as I need to. It sounds simple.
The reality is something more.
Area for Improvement
This week, I need to get back on track. I haven't been feeling great the last week. It was very busy and overwhelming, but I found myself in a not great place.
It is something that happens, and I am working through it. I usually do. But I allowed it to slow me down. My systems weren't as locked in as they needed to be.
Wrapping Up
I'm sick this weekend. Just that right level of sick where I'm not actually sick enough to just rest and do nothing, but sick enough that is exactly what I want to do.
But it will pass. And until it does, I will keep trying.
