Weekend Wrap: When Life Gives you a Brick Wall
Sometimes life is tough. Sometimes we can't even pinpoint why. And so we persevere.
Each weekend, I like to pause, reflect, and look back on the past week. This isn't meant to be a deep dive or sweeping life philosophy—just a collection of things that caught my attention, made me think, brought me joy, or stayed with me in some way.
What I Noticed

I've been thinking a lot about friction. How it helps and hurts us. So many things in our lives are there to remove friction.
I think we suffer because of that.
Lately, I have been looking for places I can add friction. Opportunities to take that friction and put it to good use for me.
In at least one area, it has been quite successful. I have made significant improvement to my sleep with one added source of friction. It is helping to mold my habits.
I am working on something specific about this, but it is sufficient right now to see that a little friction can make a large difference.
What Helped
This week was tough.
For many reasons. Most of which I won't go into here. But it felt difficult. Heavy. I don't really have anything particular that helped.
And that is alright.
Sometimes we just have to push through. We have to go through the difficult times. They make the good times more sweet. Doesn't mean we have to love it.
But we still have to do it.
What I’m Enjoying

Enjoying is a tricky word.
This week, my wife and I made it to see The Odyssey. It is a very good movie.
It is also very heavy.
This isn't a movie I came away from ready to watch again. In fact, we went home and had to watch an episode or two of Community, just to laugh and watch something with zero stakes.
But it is worth seeing. And it has me thinking I should actually re-read The Iliad and The Odyssey. Rediscover them outside the confines of forced reading and pop quizzes.
What I’m Practicing
I am still trying to get back on track.
In more ways than one. Things just feel difficult, and I have been using that as an excuse to avoid working on hard things.
I still feel like I have the desire. A little.
But my practice has been spotty at best.
Wrapping Up

I am still in the bashing stage. The wall is immovable. But I have to believe that, at some point, it will give way.
Someday.
We all have to hope for that.
