Each weekend, I like to pause, reflect, and look back on the past week. This isn't a deep dive or grand reflection—just a quick review of a handful of things that brought me joy, made me think, or challenged me.

Music

My Kreator kick continues.

And with good reason. As exciting as it was to discover their most recent album, the real joy has been in diving back in and discovering their rich back catalog, observing their evolution.

And Live in Chile has been the best way to do that. Released in 2023, it covers their entire career with the exception of their most recent. I love live music, and live albums have always been one of my favorites. I love getting a career retrospective coupled with the energy of a live album.

Based on this, Kreator kills it live. I continue to really love this band and their music.

App

I know I wrote about it previously, and still need to get back to the second half of the article, but I continue to really love Readwise as both a service and an application. The ability to get a random selection of things that I found important on a daily basis is extremely helpful.

I then often try to do a little writing about something that I rediscovered. It is an excellent way for me to process my thoughts and actually do something with what I read and highlight.

TV

We finished Taskmaster this week.

It is just such a good show. It made us laugh and entertained us for many weeks. I can't recommend it highly enough, though I truly do recommend you start later in its run, once it found its footing a bit more. I still really enjoy older seasons, but recent ones are just elite.

Quote of the week

I try to avoid mentioning political things here. Those who know me well know how I think and feel. But it is a minefield that I intentionally try to avoid.

But some things can't be avoided.

There are forces in the world, and more particularly in our own country, that think it is their right to strip away the rights and lives of others. It is reprehensible. It cannot be condoned in any way and must be met with resistance and complete condemnation.

Because the truth is this: if we aren't asking ourselves the question posed by Dr. King, we are true and actual wastes of the very air we are breathing. So, let us stand up, let us be compassionate citizens, and let us condemn in every way the actions of this administration and the reprehensible violation of human rights they are enacting daily.

Let us do for others.

Area of improvement

This last week, I really fell out of the practice of journaling.

I still did it more days than not, but it wasn't a reliable daily activity. I want to improve on that this week. I find it so helpful to take time to process my thoughts and my day. To reflect and see where I could do better.

To take time to show gratitude, even if it is in silence to myself.

It centers me in a way that I didn't understand until it became a regular part of my day. I aim to refocus on it this coming week and month.

Wrapping up

I will be honest, I have never felt more hopeless for our society in my life. I recognize it has been worse, and that it still is worse in other parts of the world. But this is the worst I recall things being in my lifetime.

We can't allow it.

We have to be optimistic, to be willing to be part of the change that needs to happen. We need to stand up for the rights, safety, and lives of each other. Let's all find some way, even small, to do that this week.
